Mulato Isleno Chile Pepper Seeds. Mulato Chili Pepper is a heirloom chile pepper is similar to Ancho Poblano in size and shape. This Chili is sweeter in flavor and much meatier and softer in texure than Poblano. This variety is very popular in Mexico, where it is often used as one of the 3 peppers for Mole Sauce. The triangular fruit of Mulato Isleno Chili Pepper measures 6" long and 3" wide. The strong stemmed plants easily reach 2 1/2 feet tall and are very prolific. Mulato Isleno Chili Pepper has a mild heat contained in a sweet rich flavor. The Scoville Heat Unit for this pepper is 500 to 1,500 units, which makes it mildly spicy. If you like subtle sweet heat this pepper fits the bill.  Mulato Isleno Chili is darker in color than Poblano. The peppers start out dark green turning to red then a black red as they ripen.  Mulato Chili are best harvested at the full maturity color of black red for the richest flavor.  Mulato Isleno Chili Pepper can be used fresh or dried.  We prefer to dry them.  We let them dry naturally, whole or in slices, rehydrating them in warm water before use.  We usually blend them and incorporate them into sauces.  Drying them naturally puts them in a chewey raisin state.  The dried peppers smell like molasses and are wonderful used in candy and baked goods.  76 days until full maturity.  Packet contains approximately 25 Mulato Isleno Chili seeds grown naturally with love and care.  We have a wide variety of Heirloom Vegetable, Herb, and Flower Seeds for sale.
