Lemon Balm Herb Seeds

Lemon Balm Herb Seeds. Heirloom Lemon Balm grows in clumps and spreads by trailing and taking root or by reseeding itself. Lemon Balm is a perennial herb. The plant is strikingly beautiful. The leaves have little hairs on them. The color of the top of the leaves is a Dark Green Jade color. When the temperatures are cooler the bottom of the leaves have a contrasting Violet Purple color to them.  Outside in the garden, the leaves and stems of the plant die off after frost in the winter, but the root stays alive and will sprout and grow again in spring. As with any perennial, if you live in a colder zone, you should heavily mulch the plant before the first hard winter frost and remove the mulch after the last frost in the spring.  It can be easily grown from stem cuttings rooted in water, or from seeds.  It does best in full sun but tolerates shade well.  If you live in a dry climate it is best to grow it in partial shade.  Lemon Balm grows great as a container plant.  We keep a couple pots indoors year round.
