Black Turtle Bean Seeds

Black Turtle Bean Seeds. This heirloom bean originates from Southern Mexico and Central America.  Its history can be traced to over 7,000 years ago. Heirloom Black Turtle Bean is most commonly used as a dry shell variety, but they can be picked early, shelled and the beans used fresh. The fresh beans can be stored by freezing. As with most beans, Black Turtle Beans can be used as a snap bean if picked before the bean inside the pod gets very big.  The beans are small, round, jet black and very high in protein.  The dried beans can be stored for a very long time.  Black Turtle Bean is a very hardy bush variety.  Harvest early and cook as fresh snap or shell beans at around 55 days, approximately 75 days for fresh shelling or let fully mature for a dry bean, approximately 90 - 100 days.  Harvest as dry beans when the pod is dry and the bean can not easily be dented with your fingernail.  Packet contains approximately 50 seeds grown naturally with love and care.  Happy Planting!  We have a wide variety of Heirloom Vegetable, Herb, and Flower Seeds for sale.
