It is a member of the cabbage family and the bulb shaped stem looks like a turnip. Kohlrabi has a sweet cabbage like flavor and can be eaten raw as well as cooked. The texture of Kohlrabi is similar to cabbage heart or cauliflower stem. (Brassica oleracea Gongylodes group) Heirloom Kohlrabi thrives in cool temperatures. Plant your kohlrabi seeds as soon as soil is warm enough to be worked in spring. For a fall crop, sow again in mid to late summer based on your growing season. Harvest your Kohlrabi plants at desired size or when the bulb of the plant reaches 2" -3 1/2".  Sow seeds up to 1/2" deep and 4" - 5" apart. All seed come to you in packets with basic growing instructions on the back. We grow, harvest, and handle all our seeds ourselves.
